The Cisco SFP-10G-T-X is a hot-swappable 10 Gigabit Ethernet transceiver module that provides 10GBASE-T connectivity over standard Category 6a or 7 copper cabling with RJ-45 connectors. It supports three data rates: 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps. For 10 Gbps operation, CAT6A or better cables are required, with a maximum reach of up to 30 meters. For 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps speeds, Cat5e cables can be used with a reach of up to 100 meters.
Key features:
Data Rates Supported: 100M/1G/10Gbps
Cable Types: Cat5e (for 100M/1G), Cat6A/Cat7 or better (for 10G)
Maximum Reach:
10 Gbps: up to 30 meters on Cat6A/Cat7 or better
100M/1Gbps: up to 100 meters on Cat5e/Cat6A/Cat7 or better
Power Consumption:
2.5W at 10 Gbps (30 meters)
1.0W at 100M/1G speeds
Connector Type: RJ-45
Compatibility: Interoperates with any device supporting 10GBASE-T, 1000BASE-T, or 100BASE-TX standards (IEEE 802.3an, 802.3ab, 802.3u)
Supported Platforms: Nexus 9000 Series (e.g., N93180YC-FX/EX, N93240YC-FX2, N93360YC-FX2), NCS 5501, and Catalyst 9000 Series (with deployment limitations due to power consumption)
Deployment Note: Due to higher power consumption (2.5W), switches cannot be fully populated with SFP-10G-T-X modules; consult platform hardware installation guides for details.
Configuration: Media type can be set to 10G-TX on supported interfaces; error-disabled state recovery may require interface shutdown and no shutdown commands.
This transceiver enables 10GBASE-T connectivity in enterprise and data center environments where copper cabling is preferred or already deployed, filling the gap in Cisco's 10/25G transceiver portfolio.
