The Cisco SSD-240G is a pluggable USB 3.0 Solid State Drive (SSD) storage device with a capacity of 240 GB. It is designed primarily for use with Cisco Catalyst switches, such as the Cisco C9350 Series Smart Switches, where it provides additional storage for application hosting and general-purpose storage needs.

Key features and uses of the SSD-240G include:
Storage Capacity: 240 GB of storage.
Application Hosting: Supports hosting applications in Kernel Virtual Machines (KVM), Linux Containers (LXC), or Docker containers.
Data Storage: Can save packet captures, trace logs generated by the operating system and third-party applications, and Graceful Insertion and Removal (GIR) snapshots.
Dual Use: Functions simultaneously as a general-purpose storage device and an application-hosting device.
Compatibility: Must use Cisco USB drives; non-Cisco USB drives are not supported.
Health Monitoring: Enabled with S.M.A.R.T (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) to monitor drive endurance, predict wear-out, and perform self-tests.
Field Replaceable: The USB 3.0 SSD device is field replaceable.
File System: Uses EXT4 as the default file system, supporting EXT2, EXT3, and EXT4 file systems; non-EXT file systems like VFAT, NTFS, and LVM are not supported.
Security: Supports password authentication to protect the drive from unauthorized access.
Limitations: Cannot be used to boot images, perform emergency installs, or upgrade internal flash; bootloader support is not available.

The SSD-240G is commonly used in Cisco Catalyst 9300 and 9400 switches to enhance storage capabilities for advanced network functions and application hosting.
